How do I set up Amazon SES?

Step 1: Sign up for AWS

Before you can use Amazon SES, you must register with AWS. When you sign up for AWS, your account automatically registers for all AWS services.

Step 2: Verify your email address

Before you can send emails from your email address through Amazon SES, you must show Amazon SES that you own the email address by checking it.

Step 3: Send your first email

You can send an email simply using the Amazon SES console. As a new user, your account is in a test environment called sandbox, so you can only send emails to and from email addresses you verified.

Step 4: Consider how you will handle bounces and complaints

Before the next step, you need to think about how you will handle bounces and complaints. If you send a small number of recipients, your process can be as simple as reviewing the comments and bounce complaints you receive via email, and then removing those recipients from your mailing list.

Step 5: Exit the Amazon SES Sandbox

In order to send emails to unverified email addresses and increase the number of emails you can send per day and how quickly you can send them, your account must move out of the sandbox. This process involves opening a case of increased SES shipping limits in the Support Center.
